The next morning, I got a message from Claire. Not only was I back on the variety show, but I had severa
new commercial deals.
I peeked at the trending topics. Everyone was dying to know what happened after “Open the door.”
The PR team was steering the conversation towards shipping us as a couple, and they hadn’t responded to
the previous negative press yet. They were probably waiting for the right moment.
Clark and I went back to the penthouse together, holding hands in broad daylight.
Before, I would have been worried about being seen. Now, there was no point.

Chapter 2
People were taking pictures of us on the street, but they were all friendly. Clark didn’t say anything.
I thought the drama was over, but I was wrong. When we got back to the penthouse, I was hit with another
surprise.
All of Clark’s things were gone. His clothes, his watches, his toiletries–everything.
At first, I didn’t even realize it. I thought we had been robbed. I was even wondering why the thief had only stolen his things and not mine.
Clark looked at me with a half–smile.
“Didn’t you tell me to move out within a week? How could I dare to disobey? What if my things ended up on
the street one day?”
“After all, I don’t pay rent, and my name isn’t on the deed. What right do I have to live in this big penthouse?”
Listen to that sarcasm. I was so embarrassed I could have died.
He had moved out because he was afraid I wouldn’t come back. Now he was just teasing me.
I knew I was in the wrong, so I dutifully pulled on his sleeve and begged him to move back in.
By that afternoon, everything was back to normal. I obsequiously rearranged his ties by color.
Clark went to the office, and I stayed home, binge–watching the variety show I was about to be a guest on.
I never expected to get a call from Evelyn. She asked me to have dinner with her.
