My heart was pounding. I opened the door.
Clark looked down at me, devastatingly handsome.
I tried to speak, but tears started to fall uncontrollably. I just stood there, my vision blurred, looking at him.
He froze for a second, then reached up to wipe away my tears.
His touch was gentle, but his words were sharp.
“I haven’t even said anything yet, and you’re already crying. You’ve really mastered the art of emotional man
ipulation.”
He led me inside and sat me down on the sofa.
I stole a glance at him, happy, but still stubborn. “What are you doing here?”
He tossed his suit jacket aside and started rolling up his sleeves. “First, let’s talk about me ‘picking sides‘.”
That brought all my anger rushing back. I scooted away from him. “You did pick sides. What’s there to tall
about?”
He scoffed. “I did pick sides. And when have I ever not picked yours?”
‘You were so into the fight you didn’t even notice Cara’s acrylic nail was about to scratch your face. If I hadr
pulled you out, your face would have been ruined.”
‘You cry for a whole day over a single pimple. If your face got scratched, you’d probably cry enough to floo
the entire city.”
was stunned. I never thought that was the reason. Suddenly, I felt like I was in the wrong, but I didn’t wan
to admit it.
‘Then why didn’t you say so at the time?”
Clark scoffed again. “Did I not say it, or did you not listen?”

Chapter 2
“By the time I chased after you, you were gone. You’re never that quick when you’re coming to see me.”
“And you kicked me out. Ivy, you’re the first person to ever get a sugar daddy and then kick him out halfwa
through.”
My confidence was dwindling, but I still held my head high.
“Well, you didn’t come looking for me for days. You didn’t do anything when I was getting dragged online You were too busy with your marriage plans, weren’t you? Why are you even here? I’m not going to be the
other woman.”
He pulled me towards him, cupping my face in his hands, his eyes dark.
“Who told you I was getting married?”
“Are the resources I give you not good enough? Are the gifts I give you not expensive enough? Is that what
makes you think I need to sell myself into à marriage for business?”
“They all said…”
“You listen to this person, you listen to that person, but you won’t listen to me. Are you looking for a spanki
ng?”
I shrank back, breaking free from his grasp.
“You still haven’t told me where you were these past few days.”
He looked at me and sighed. “I was on a business trip in the States. A project collapsed. I had to go take
over.”
“I didn’t intervene at first because I knew Cara was working with Director Yang. I was waiting for her to revea
all her cards so I could take them all down at once.”
“And I was worried about anti–fans trying to find you, so I had bodyguards stationed around your hotel.”
“What else do you want to know? Come on, ask away.”
I finally asked the question that had been buried deep in my heart. “Will you marry me? Or do you just want me to be your kept woman forever?”
Clark was silent.
My heart sank.
