Lincoln finally understood the source of his lingering melancholy.
He was afraid that Jessica before him might lose herself for Leon.
But now he realized that she wouldn’t lose herself for Leon.
She would never compromise her convictions for anyone, for the welfare of the people was always her priority.
The people were the very foundation of the nation. It didn’t matter whose hands the country fell into–Waldo, Leon, even Melvin, Davon, or any other
faction.
It didn’t matter to her who ruled.
What truly concerned her was whether those who ascended the throne could genuinely improve the lives of the people.
This was true neutrality.
And yet, Lincoln thought, ‘Wasn’t claiming loyalty to the King just another way of taking sides
Suddenly, it hit him. He’d wasted his entire twenty–plus years of life.
Here he was, a man in his twenties, yet his mind wasn’t as clear as Jessica’s.
“Let’s go! Once we’re back, I want you to dig deep and find out who’s really behind this anonymous letter!” Lincoln ordered.
He might not align himself with any faction, but if anyone tried to use him to clear the way for scheming individuals under his watch, he would never tolerate it!
In an inconspicuous guest room tucked away in a corner of Waldo House’s Drizzle Pavilion, a faint medicinal aroma lingered in the air.
The black–robed man leaned weakly against the bedside, having just coughed up another mouthful of blood. Traces of crimson still glistened at the corners of his lips.
Yuna brought him warm water herself and gently wiped the blood from the corners of his lips.
“Master, you’re in no shape to stay in Capitalia any longer. How about…”
“Afraid I’ll drag you down?” The black–robed master glared at her, his anger flaring so violently that the blood in his chest churned again. He nearly coughed up blood once more.
He had truly underestimated Leon, the legendary King of Northern Borderlands.
This was his first time crossing blades with Leon. To his shock, a dozen of his men, each a master in their own right, couldn’t withstand even three moves under Leon’s hands.
Had Anthony not intervened, they wouldn’t have escaped at all.
But…
“Why did General Anthony appear at Mount Takano? Did you send someone to lure him there?” The black–robed man glared at Yuna, his eye to slits. “You dare act on your own right under my nose? Tell me, who put you up to this?”

The black–robed master sneered, “If you were truly loyal, you wouldn’t have acted on your own so many times! And you even dared to approach Prince Leon!” But alas, the truth was, Leon never even wanted her.
At the mention of this, a shadow flickered across Yuna’s eyes.
“Master, you have your duties, and I have my mission. Though I serve under you, when carrying out my mission, I’m exempt from your command…
“What did you just say?” The man’s eyes widened in shock. “Whose orders are you following?”
“Who do you think?” Yuna said. Who stood above the sect leader? He knew the answer perfectly well himself.
Yuna hadn’t planned to reveal her true allegiance so soon, but after his botched mission this time, he’d likely fall out of favor with the Cult Master and lose any chance of future advancement.
Right now, he should be focusing on cleaning up his own mess instead of wasting his time and energy on pointless arguments with her.
The black–robed man’s fingers clenched, his face still etched with disbelief. “You… you’ve actually met the Cult Master?”
‘But the Cult Master never personally meets anyone below the rank of Master,’ the black–robed man thought in disbelief. ‘Yuna is just a hall leader, lower in rank than me. How could she possibly have met the Cult Master?‘
What shocked him even more was…
