“I’m here to see Prince Leon.” Shawn said.
“Are you kidding? If you’re looking for His Highness, go back to Leon House. What are you doing here?” Monica asked, cutting him off.
Then she winked and said, “Are you thirsty? Why not take a break in the side hall? I’ll have someone make you some coffee”
Shawn scratched his head and said with a sigh, “Well… alright then. Thanks, Ms. Garza, His Highness has some news for Ms. Yates. It’s nothing urgent. You can pass it along for me.”
“Okay. Please follow me to the side hall.”
Once they arrived, Monica went to make coffee for him.
Shawn held the cup without taking a sip. After glancing around cautiously, he asked, “Ms. Garza, can I talk now?”
“Go ahead,” Monica said. She had to watch her words carefully outside Moonchase Hall earlier.
“Ms. Garza, is it not safe here either?” He knew most noble households had their fair share of prying eyes, but he had always assumed the Yates family, who kept to themselves, wouldn’t draw much attention.
Looking back, Shawn realized just how naive he had been.
“Now that Prince Leon has the Royal Guard Warrant, there’s been more trouble around here,” Monica said. “can’t say for sure how safe it is, but everyone here was handpicked by Ms. Yates. So it’s definitely safer than anywhere else.”
Shawn let out a sigh of relief. “Then… may I see His Highness now?”
Last night, Magnus said Leon was injured but didn’t say how badly. Since Leon left with Jessica, there had been no word. With Magnus tied up with urgent business, Shawn had no choice but to come himself.
Last night, he was with the royal army and never got a chance to approach Leon. So he still had no idea how serious Leon’s injuries were.
Magnus didn’t know, either. Clearly, Leon gave him tasks to handle, without mentioning his injuries at all.
Shawn begged, “Ms. Garza, His Highness…”
Monica shot him a look and said, “Do you really think it’s up to a mere maid like me to decide whether His Highness will see you?”
Once again, he scratched his head in frustration. Monica was both amused and annoyed by his reaction.
She couldn’t help but wonder, just like Magnus, “How has this guy managed to serve as Prince Leon’s personal aide all these years without getting the
boot?”
But after a moment’s thought, Monica seemed to understand.
Leon must have seen something in Shawn worth keeping around.
“Don’t worry, my lord,” Monica said. “Ms. Yates has been looking after His Highness herself. He should be fine. He’s still resting. Once he’s feeling better, he’ll head back,” Monica said.
In truth, she wasn’t sure how bad Leon’s injuries were. But when she brought him his meal earlier, he was still unconscious in bed.
Monica thought to herself, “Come on. He’s Demon King. His injuries must be serious.”
But she was certain with Jessica here, everything would be fine.
